THE COLD MOON

This is Ernie. He and Ethel live on Strawberry island. This months moon is called a “Cold” moon. (Oak moon sometimes) I’m glad I was able to get these shots, as they would turn out to be my only moon shots! Nothing but cloud today onward. So we will not be able to see the Cold full moon on Wednesday?

Ernie looks so stoic. Ethel was right above him. They are beginning to pair up as mating season is about to happen.

    1. A family lives on Strawberry island. Someone many years ago shot one of the eagles! One of the children found it on the ground. It wasn’t severely wounded but did need medical attention. The young girl named it Bert and of course the other Ernie.
She wrapped up the eagle for the night to immobilize it for the night but It managed to wriggle out of it’s straight jacket…………and crap everywhere!
So I kept the name Ernie but named the other Ethel.

  1. A regal eagle and “his” moon. Tonight look up in the sky and see the Cold Moon pass in front of Mars – just heard that on the 8:00 p.m. news and you don’t need a telescope. We will see nothing as it’s cloudy tonight.

      1. I just looked at the two meteorologists posts from yesterday that I got in my Twitter feed and both posts are gone – now it’s not like they run out of space, so deleted their Tweet. It had a picture of a the tiny red Mars and the moon. Oh well.

      1. That’s interesting. I had this idea that being in Canada it would be very cold and snowy in winter but I guess that’s the benefit of being near the coast.

  2. Wayne, I grew up watching the Muppet Show and I do have to say, the moment I saw Ernie’s pose I was reminded of Sam the eagle. Capturing Ernie with a half cold moon certainly makes up for a forecast of a cloud covered full cold moon. December has proven cloudier than usual in our neck of the woods so I find I have an even greater appreciation for the times we do see the sunrise and have found myself basking with the dogs in any sunlight that pops through during the day. Merry Christmas!
