Looks like Frank & Frieda went else where tonight. You can see their empty nest.
Actually,it was a tad windy so they went to the lee of the island to wait it out.

Many birds are passing through right now. They stop off in Tofino,have a bite,rest & continue their journey northward.

See those bright green lines in the background.Those are either logged areas or logging roads. Alder is a quick rooting tree that takes advantage of any open areas! You can see these worked areas in both summer & winter. In the winter,all the leaves fall & exposes these roads.
TRANQUIL’S ESTUARY
This whole area floods at high tide. That root ball got swept down stream during a high rain event! The stream swells tremendously during heavy rainstorms. The fast flowing water undercuts the trees along side the bank & they fall into the raging stream. The trees are then unceremoniously carried downstream to a new resting place.

NEW ROUTE INTO TRANQUIL
I went down to Tranquil today. I found a new route in! Because of that log jam, there is a newly carved route into Tranquil! I was pleasantly surprised.
I suppose during the winter time when we had our strongest rains, the streams volume increased so much so that it couldn’t get through the log jam & flowed around this blockage! There is a new flow route!
I’ve been coming into Tranquil for several decades now & have never noticed this route before?
I know I couldn’t of missed it. I could see lots of recently deposited gravel all around. Being a X Geologist I slowly started figuring out what had happened.
I had my chest waders with me this time. I hopped out & gently pulled my boat upstream.
The exit of a stream will flow back & forth across it’s estuary many times over hundreds of years. All the boulders & gravel will get rolled over again & again, making the stones smoother.
I could see that the next Frontal system was closing in fast! By the time I got to Tsapee Narrows I had 10 minutes or so before the light went bye bye for the day!
I didn’t have the light,so I couldn’t take too many pictures today. Still,it was great getting out!
RELUCTANT MODEL
I couldn’t find a single bear tonight. So when I saw this guy,I tried to get a shot,but it was too far away from the shoreline. I beached the boat & went along the shore trying to get a shot but it was onto me & soon walked away.

I was down at the camp site doing some work for several hours & by the time I came back out,I noticed the leading edge of a system moving in. As I approached Tsapee Narrows I could see I only had 5 minutes max of sun light left before it went bye bye for the night!
So I only got to visit one of my friends tonight before I had to call it.
