I made a slight error today! I was about to head out in my boat with my camera bag already on my back, when I thought I’d check the Satellite weather site to see what was going on? I saw a bank of cloud coming in not more than a 100 clicks SW of Tofino. I verified that with a local beach camera. It looks westward.
I need the light to take my shots! If there is a bank of clouds moving in that’ll block the light I see no reason to head out! It takes a lot of effort to carry my boat down to the water, the engine & all my gear! I decided that we were most likely going to loose the light in a hour or so……………………..so no point in going out!
I decided to go out to the beach instead. The beach is always a great Plan B.
I went out to the beach & quickly realized that those clouds I saw on the Satellite site were dissipating as they approached the coast line!
Basically, the light was going to stay good & yes I could have gone out in the boat! Mother Nature suckered me! She’s always keeping me on my toes!
I hate making the wrong calls,……………but I still saved the day with some good beach shots!
The weather has been poor for so long I can’t remember what it feels like on a sunny day!
If you see me posting shots of the Lighthouse,it means I’m bored!
It’s a long weekend here & many people are in town. I think many of these people are from the University of Victoria Kayak Club!
I saw it written on the back of their PFD’s. (Personal Floatation Device……….life jackets)
The light was about as interesting as paint drying. We are suppose to come into a big cold high pressure system Monday, but I’m hoping tomorrow?
Each year many people come to Tofino for Thanksgiving! It’s kind of the last long weekend of the year? The town swells in numbers & the turkeys population decreases.
The beach was full of walkers & surfers today! I haven’t gotten out now for almost 2 weeks & I must admit that I am becoming twitchy! I want to go down to Tranquil for the salmon/bears game but with no light…………no point!
All in good time & measure I say.
The cloud structure looked interesting! I walked the beach looking for photo opportunities, but found few. As the clouds started to turn reddish I looked around frantically for any surfers & than found two walking towards me! I rushed up to them & asked if I could take shots of them as they walked?
They agreed thankfully! The cloud colour & structure was fantastic! The beach had a layer of water on it that acted like a mirror! When the tide is high, the water permeates down into the sand. The entire beach fills up like a huge bowl.So when the tide goes out,all of that water begins to drain back down the beach. This water layer really adds drama to a beach scene! So it’s better to shoot the sunset when it’s low tide rather than high!
Had a great sunset beach shoot tonight! I never know when the sunset is going to “GO”,but if your not around & prepared, your not going to be able to take advantage of it!
