I didn’t know that Raven males are larger than the females, unlike Eagles and Hawks.(And Owls maybe.) Is it the same for Crows? Lovely photo, one facing right and the other to the left.
I like how they sat on the tree with these short branches – the tree looks odd with no branches, but it is perfect for spotlighting this beautiful and glossy-looking couple.
I see – I wondered why they looked like that – now I know.
Terri has bragged about your photography. She included a link to your post in her Bird Feeding post this morning on Sunday Stills. I see what she means about your beautiful work. :)

Yes,It’s the Raptors that have the sexual dimorphism.
Great pictures, Wayne. My husband thinks this bird is the perfect name sake for me 😂
Thank you Robbie. When I named them both I used the letter “R” from Raven and maybe Robbie came to mind because of your influence?
I like how the feathers are spread out, so black. Nice capture!
Thank you Jane! It was a flurry of shots I took as he perched! Most were out of focus but a few were perfect!
Do they mate for life?
yes,If one is killed they most times will find another.
Undoubtedly you have a more “discerning” eye and breadth of knowledge than myself. Some perfect shots here!
Thank you David, they both stopped by today. I heard them calling me. They were upset a second couple of Ravens was around.
Great series of posts, so many fabulous captures, Wayne! The birds are keeping you busy, and I know you are loving it! :-)
It’s always exciting when I go out as I never know exactly what’s going to pop up or happen?
That is the thrill that I enjoy!
me too!
The coming-in-to-land shot – perfect! :D
Thank you,….I was amazed at how much tail flairing there was!
That’s what caught my eye too. :)
Yes,eagles cannot flare that much!
That’s almost 180 degrees!
What a shot of Robbie! I call that NGW (National Geographic Worthy).
Thanks Jennie! That is the only shot that turned out too!
Beautiful action shot!
Thank you Emma!

out here, they call those type of trees a “snag”.
Personally, a dead tree that has fallen but becomes “snagged” on another tree is what I call a snag.
I see – I wondered why they looked like that – now I know.
