I went looking for bears tonight, first time this year. I went up the eastern shore of Fortune Channel for several miles not seeing any. I made my return run and just as I was about to leave Fortune I did spot one but it was in the shade. Wouldn’t you know it! You know how I hate black bears in shade!
Having said that……10% of something is better than 100% of nothing! It looks like a matured female.
There you complaining about black bears in the shade and I am thinking, what a lovely colour that bear is! Good work. Wayne!
thank you Emma!
My furry friends are back.
YES! and they asked me to ask you to make anything with salmon in it………..say 2 or 3 hundred pounds?
So lovely! What a pretty face.
and I’m sure she would thank you Annette!
Beautiful bear!
I saw my first bear of the season yesterday. Very healthy looking with a bluish shiny coat.
we both saw our first bear on the same day! Coastal bears seem to have nicer coats when they emerge. I think its because of the crab diet.
Thatās a pretty good ten per cent!
I wanted my first shot of the year to be in golden light……and for it to be a small cub!
Oh well, look how many you’ll see in the coming months. This mature female looks tired – do you think she just woke up Wayne?
I don’t think so because she was eating crabs. When they first wake up they eat grass to get their digestive system moving. They than move into the more richer crab diet.
Well it is not long after that extended slumber – probably takes a while to get motivated again.
š¤ wonderful as always Wayne š«
thank you Hedy! The number of this bear is 1. I wonder how many I’ll visit this year? More than a 100 but less than a 1000.
I agree! That is one big mother!
ha ha….yes, she was not close to the shore edge so I had to beach the boat and walk towards her.She tolerated me but kept a eye on me. After a few months she’d recognize me and pay me no attention.
He has such a cute facešš
yes! I’m not sure but this one looks like a female. I could be wrong but generally when the face is so rounded like this its a female.
She looks fine. You can see her cute muzzle.
On Vancouver island most bears have a black muzzle. Hers appears more brownish but I think that might be because of her being in the shadows. It shifts the colour balance.
