Poked in the eye with an eaglet talon or wayward beak? I guess that would be some protection then for them.
eaglets need to be feed by the adults. The adult tears off a piece and brings it to the eaglet. The eaglets aim isn’t that good sometimes I guess?
They are not like the robins who can’t open their eyes, but just open their beaks and wait for food to be dropped in. And their mouths are big as you saw in my robin chicks post.
not sure but they seem to figure it out at any rate!
Well they grow up big and strong so they have a good feeding method.
Wow! and I didn’t know about the nictating eyelids. Makes sense though.
They look like glass eyes.
Those shades are so amazing. :)

That’s very interesting and I imagine if it was very windy it would be helpful or if there was debris in the air.
I once read that its for eye protection when feeding their eaglets. So they don’t get poked in the eye but can still see.
