NEW SOW WITH CUBS!

I did get out today. We are under a strong high pressure system at the moment & it looks like we’ll have many more days of sunshine!
I went up into Fortune Channel tonight to look for bears & found this Sow with her two cubs! It was high tide too,so I wasn’t too optimistic about finding anyone home but I’m always hopeful? It appears that the bears are content at the moment to eat the fresh lush Spring grass’s. Even at high tide there were some small patches here & there.
I found them opposite the Creative salmon Fish farm on the eastern shore. I was to say……. “pleasantly surprised”!
At first I only saw a bear by it’s self. As I got closer I saw these two little cuties come out of the bush playing!
I shut the motor off & paddled in.
I did do my own boo boo however! I accidentally dropped my one & only paddle in the water! It was very quiet & the splash did alarm Momma bear! It was a stupid mistake! I now couldn’t steer or get around! I used the top of my cooler as a improvised paddle & recovered said paddle.
The Sow went back to her grazing & all was well. I was with them for 45 minutes or so until they had no more grass to graze on & they went up into the bush.
I than went around the corner into Gunner Inlet. I have this little thing I do when I go up into Gunner. I stop at the far end in the middle & shut the motor off & take my headphones off. I than eat my treat of the night all the while just listening to the sounds of Nature! Very therapeutic to say the least!
Tonight’s treat was a delicious donut!
While I was listening to some Ravens chatting in the forest,I noticed a bear over on the eastern shore! Thats the best spot to take shots because the light hits it! The bears always seem to come out on the western side, in the shade. Looks like I got lucky twice in one night!
I started up the motor & got ready. I drifted in ever so slowly & had a wonderful time with a yearling! The setting was beautiful! The yearling was surrounded by lush Spring green growth!
I had my Go Pro on for both shoots & got some good footage.
I than returned to town but not before stopping off at Tsapee Narrows to visit the Daredevil. Delilah wasn’t around. She must of been with their recently hatched eaglets on the nest.
The western sky was almost free of clouds & I knew it was going to be a great sunset,so I continued on & went to visit with Romeo & Juliette.
She stayed with their eaglets, while Romeo & I chatted over at his rocky perch. I always talk to him when he allows me to get close to him while he’s on his rocky perch. He must think I’m a nut!
I noticed his left eye has almost healed from that injury he got last year.
All in all…….. a most excellent evening shoot!
UPDATE: A friend has named these Cubs as “Teeny” & “Weeny”!
